The Importance of Outfits (Part 2)

In my previous writeup I was discussing about the ruddy awful school uniform myself and my fellow school friends were made to wear which was a bright yellow polo shirt with blue lettering on it and the school crest & then a royal blue sweatshirt with yellow lettering on it aswell as the school logo. After having to wear it for 8 years from September 2002 to July 2010 myself and my classmates could finally leave the transition department in mainschool & move into Lakeside where now we no longer needed to wear the school uniform and could dress how we wanted.

Now free of the school uniform I could look through my wardrobe and find some good outfits to wear in Lakeside College. Most of the guys who had gone into Lakeside at the same time as me dressed like normal teenagers with a normal shirt, sweatshirt (winter months), trainers OR canvas shoes & jeans. For me I was one of the type of teens where appearance was important to me and alongside wearing jeans and either a short sleeved OR long sleeved shirt depending on the time of the year I would dig out some canvas shoes aswell as my denim jackets or shirts. I was now even allowed to go mad with the jewelery which included neck pieces aswell as wrist jewelery (these latter items being banned in mainschool and transition for no reason at all). As I also stated in my last writeup I always said to people "One does have an appearance to keep up which is extremely important". I think I was one of the few male students in Lakeside which took care of my appearance, a few of the female students also followed the same road that I was on where they kept up on their appearance. Thank god though that I didn't go down the goth or emo road as there would've been the clothing plus jewelery, straightening of the hair and then the goth makeup too. Although it might have been interesting to see what I would have looked like had I done that. As a result during my teens I did experiment quite a bit with clothes.

Going out into the community on Monday's was the most important one for me to keep up my appearance but I also did keep up my appearance when only on Lakeside ground that day. Outfits wise for me I would always try and go for expensive clothes including M&S aswell as Primark, but I would also sometimes try and keep the budget down so as not to end up blowing too much money. In recent years iv been purchasing stuff from Matalan aswell as still purchasing stuff from Primark, iv even been buying stuff like my denim jackets online (boohooMan to be exact with the denim jackets). As iv got older my wardrobe has begun to get pretty basic with either short sleeved tops or long sleeved tops, a fair few of the shirts in my wardrobe being Harry Potter ones which I got with Loot Crate.

However in recent times I have tried to go for something like 80's outfits with the denim jacket's and experimenting with outfits to try and give it an 80's crossed with modern look. An example is included in two of the photographs in this writeup.

On one occasion when I was on my way home from Liverpool Lime Street after id travelled behind a steam engine from Scarborough to York and then on a normal service train from York to Liverpool, I was walking back to Central when one of the guys in a group said I looked like I was dressed up for christmas. Of-course I just ignored this comment and kept going, they then just walked on singing christmas songs. The outfit in question included one of my blue denim jacket's aswell as a dark blue shirt underneath and with the sun being out at the time I also had my sunglasses on.

Really what I want to try and do is whenever im out in public try and keep up an important appearance but whenever im at home appearance isn't really important as it's either a day spent in PJ's OR preferably a shirt with either jeans OR thin trousers (either maroonish red or dark blue). When it came to my volunteering work though it would always be a short sleeved shirt with dark work trousers and because of the work I was doing steel toecap boots. I would also add to this a set of overalls as I didn't want to try and get too dirty underneath, didn't matter if my hands or face got dirty but I wanted to try and keep myself as clean as possible underneath my overalls. Infact on some occasions after id finished my volunteering work I would often go home completely black covered in coal dust or dirt from working on steam engines. It did annoy my parents when it came to the state of the bathroom after id had a shower as it would sometimes take ages for me to get completely and properly cleaned up, although before leaving Ribble I would use some swarfega on my hands to try and clean my hands a bit for when I needed to drive home.

I do have to be careful though when it comes to what outfits to wear during the summer though because if you dress in too thick a shirt or have too many layers on you can end up fainting from the heat, this is a painful lesson I learnt a few weeks ago when I fainted from the heat and ended up getting one hell of a cut on my forehead aswell as a black eye on my right eye (what was worse was it was also bloodshot).

Finally one thing that I have a good number of in my wardrobe is the large amount of shoes I have which vary from Converse, Lee Cooper & very recently SoulCal. They can also vary from either from either canvas or even high tops alongside some leather boots & those steel toecap boots for when I was doing voluntary work. The closest set of boots I have which are almost like those that were worn in the 80s being some crosshatch's, these however are now begining to get very worn out and will very likely need to get binned very soon. I do wanna try and get some new Converse's but these aren't cheap now as some can cost about £35 and some are even £70, some limited edition Converse boots can even cost around £160.

What’s your favourite type of clothing?
