The Importance of Outfits (Part 1)

Hi guys

It's been a good while since I last posted a blog and I'd like to apologise for the long absence as things cropped up and it's been off my mind for sometime.

For my discussion today I wanna discuss the importance of outfits. Now I do know that this is something that has been covered by other bloggers over time but it is important in the Autism community as comfort is one of the important things & in my case when out in public one of the saying's that I used to say to people was"One does have an appearance to keep up which is extremely important". This is something that was extremely important when I was going through my teenage years & what was not a help was that f**king awful uniform we were made to wear when in mainschool as it made us look like children rather than teenagers and growing young adults.

When myself and the gang were still in mainschool the school uniform instead of being something like a white shirt with a tie, black trousers, smart shoes & if required a blazer/school jacket. NO aside from the smart school shoes and trousers we were made to look like little children wearing a bright yellow school shirt with blue lettering & the school crest on it, but the worse bit was that royal blue sweatshirt we needed to wear with yellow lettering on. That to date for me is by far the most embarassing outfits iv ever had to wear especially when I was a teenager.

The one place on Wargrave grounds where you would no longer need to wear that ruddy awful school uniform was the Lakeside department, however this was only for post 16 to 19 students which meant that until you turned 16 years old and depending on when it happened during the academic year you'd need to wait until July when breaking up for the summer hols before being allowed to move into Lakeside that coming September. The agonising thing when it came to the Sept 2009-July 2010 academic year was that most of the people we knew had moved upto Lakeside, thank god I still had Callum O & Alistair H with me aswell as Daniel, Carl, etc as otherwise had they all gone I would have rather asked to leave and go to a mainstream college as I wouldn't have been able to cope on my own as billy no mates and the gloating I would never have heard the end of. Fortunately July 2010 came along and I plus the rest of the gang could finally join the others in Lakeside & we could finally bin the school uniform's that we had (burned in my case as I threw them on a bonfire). When it came to the final day of being in main school I chose to follow the school tradition of having one of my school shirts signed which included getting signatures off people who were leaving, others who would be getting left behind & those who I would be joining in September. Examples of some comments included.

For that day it was a case of wear a normal school shirt and carry around the one to be signed, then at the end of the day it was a case of remove the one id worn all day and put on the signed shirt. The one id worn all of that day I just left behind on a shelf in Transition's cloak room as I didn't need it anymore. The signed shirt is the only one left as the remainder ended up either binned or burnt.

Now that my mainschool & transition days were over I could now change from only wearing my own clothing at home and during special days like Jeans for Genes days, Red Nose days & Christmas to now permanently wearing them on Wargrave grounds & it now meant I had to do a massive improvement of my wardrobe as now I really was going to have an appearance to keep up especially when we went out into the community.

I'll conclude this article in my blog so until then just be yourself.

To be continued
